Doha: HE Government Communications Office (GCO) Director, Sheikh Jassim bin Mansour bin Jabor Al-Thani, chaired a meeting of the Web Summit Qatar Permanent Organising Committee, focusing on Qatar’s participation in the upcoming Web Summit in Lisbon and preparations for the Web Summit Qatar 2025. The meeting brought together key stakeholders to strategize the country’s involvement in these significant tech events.
According to Qatar News Agency, the committee, led by the GCO, includes representatives from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Invest Qatar, and Qatar Tourism. Over 20 meetings have been held since the inaugural Web Summit Qatar, as part of Qatar’s five-year agreement to host the global tech event through 2028.

said HE Sheikh Jassim. He highlighted the collaborative efforts across Qatar’s public and private sectors in shaping an integrated tech ecosystem that aligns with the nation’s ambitious vision.
HE Sheikh Jassim also noted Qatar’s strong presence at Web Summit Lisbon 2024, showcasing emerging talent and industry leaders. Qatar’s engagements at the Lisbon event will feature a pavilion promoting the country’s evolving tech landscape and business environment, and the upcoming 2025 edition in Doha. The Lisbon event is expected to host 70,000 attendees, including 3,000 startups and 1,000 investors.
According to GCO, representatives from key local entities, including CEO at Invest Qatar, Sheikh Ali bin Alwaleed Al-Thani; CEO of Qatar Development Bank, Abdulrahman Al Suwaidi; and Head of Sector for Technology, Media, and Telecommunications at Qatar Investment Authority, Mohammed Al Hardan, will speak at the event. Additionally, finalists of the Startup Qatar Investment Program, launched during Web Summit Qatar 2024
, will be revealed. These startups will receive funding and strategic benefits.
Web Summit Qatar 2025 has already seen a surge in demand for general attendee ticket sales, with a fourfold increase compared to the previous year. Sales for the startup program have grown by 500 percent, and country delegations are expected to expand by 30 percent year-over-year, with confirmed participation from countries such as Germany, Hong Kong, India, Spain, Bahrain, Jordan, Oman, Turkey, Netherlands, and Thailand.
HE Jassim bin Mansour bin Jabor Al-Thani expressed that each summit strengthens Qatar’s capabilities and expands its network, aiding in the preparation for future editions. The inaugural Web Summit Qatar marked significant success, being the largest gathering of international startups in a Web Summit debut, with over 15,000 attendees from 118 countries. During the event’s four-day run, 24 Memoranda of Understanding were signed between leading Qatar-based and international entities.
