US President Withdraws from Presidential Race

In a surprising turn of events, US President Joe Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

Biden said he would focus solely on fulfilling his duties as President for the remainder of my term, adding that he would address the nation later this week in more detail about his decision.

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden said in his withdrawal note.

“I will speak to the Nation later this week in more detail about my decision.

For now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked so hard to see me reelected. I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all this work. And let me express my heartfelt appreciation to the American people for the faith and trust
you have placed in me,” Biden added.

The US president had previously confirmed that he was considering withdrawing from the presidential race if doctors informed him that he had a medical condition that would require him to stop running for a second term.

Calls from members of the US Congress for Biden to withdraw from the presidential elections have recently increased, especially after his performance in the presidential debate with his Republican rival, Donald Trump, late last month.
