US Announces New aid to Ukraine Worth $225 Million

The United States has announced a new aid package for Ukraine worth USD 225 million, on the sidelines of the celebrations commemorating the Norman D-Day in World War II.

The announcement of the new aid came during a meeting Friday between US President Joe Biden and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, in the French capital, Paris, where Biden confirmed his signing of an additional aid package worth USD 225 million to help Ukraine.

During the meeting, the US President apologized to his Ukrainian counterpart for Congress delay in approving the latest US aid package.

He said, “I apologize for those weeks in which I did not know what would happen with regard to financing,” adding, “Some of our members were very conservative (in Congress).” “They are obstructing it… but we finally accomplished it.” In turn, the Ukrainian president stressed that “it is absolutely necessary for US to stand by Ukraine and for the two parties (Democrat and Republican) in Congress to unite in supporting (Ukraine)… and
for the entire American people to stand with it.” The new aid, which was announced, includes artillery shells, air defense missiles and other weapons, as Ukraine seeks to defend Kharkiv city after an attack launched by Russia on May 10, during which it took control of some villages in the region.

The total value of aid provided by the US to Ukraine, since the start of the war in February 2022, has reached more than USD 43 billion.
