Doha:Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres has urged all parties involved in the Middle East crisis to cease hostilities, return to diplomatic efforts, and ensure the restoration of navigational rights and freedoms in line with international law.
According to Qatar News Agency, during his visit to Pakistan, Guterres emphasized that lasting peace in the Middle East hinges on the full realization of the Palestinian people's right to self-determination, a stance consistently supported by Pakistan.
Guterres expressed his hope for peace and prosperity in the region through dialogue and cooperation. He acknowledged Pakistan's longstanding role in accommodating millions of Afghan refugees fleeing conflict and instability.
The United Nations remains dedicated to collaborating with Pakistan to uphold the principle of protection and to facilitate the voluntary, secure, and dignified return of Afghan refugees. Guterres noted that his previous visit to Pakistan occurred in 2022, in the aftermath of severe flooding.
