Vienna, The United Nations has called for increased international efforts to protect the Danube River, which flows through 14 countries and supports 79 million people along its banks, from the impacts of climate change and pollution.In a statement from Vienna, the UN announced that on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River, international bodies will participate in this year's Danube Day celebrations, which will feature a variety of activities along the river's banks.The statement highlighted the vital role the Danube River and its tributaries play in people's lives by providing water, food, energy, recreation, and livelihoods.Source: Bahrain News Agency
