Turkiye Foils ISIS Plot Targeting Upcoming NATO Summit

Ankara: Turkish authorities announced Thursday that they have thwarted a plot by ISIS to target participants in the NATO summit scheduled to take place in Ankara early July. In a statement, Turkish security services said they killed a senior operative believed to be the mastermind of the plot during resistance to his arrest.

According to Qatar News Agency, as part of a wide pre-emptive operation, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor issued arrest warrants for 241 suspects, with 209 detained in coordinated raids targeting ISIS-linked cells as well as members of banned far-left groups.

Authorities also imposed a 13-day ban on public demonstrations and events in the capital from June 28 to July 10, alongside restrictions on drone flights and the closure of several roads near airports and diplomatic venues.

The measures come ahead of the 36th NATO summit scheduled for July 7-8, which is expected to bring together alliance leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump.
