Turkish, Italian Foreign Ministers Discuss Ukrainian Black Sea Grain Initiative

Turkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani discussed, in a phone call on Tuesday, the latest efforts to revive the Ukrainian Black Sea Grain Initiative.

The two sides discussed, during the call, relations between the two countries, and a number of regional issues.

On July 17, Russia suspended its participation in the Black Sea grain deal, which was signed in July 2022 in Istanbul between Russia and Ukraine, mediated by Turkiye and the UN, and refused to extend its implementation, because of what it considered “failure to fulfill” obligations to remove obstacles to its exports of food and fertilizers.
