Doha: EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, affirmed the European Union’s strong support for the implementation of US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan. Speaking following her participation in the GCC-EU Joint Ministerial Meeting in Kuwait, Kallas hailed the plan as the best realistic opportunity to achieve a lasting ceasefire and pave the way for a two-state solution.
According to Qatar News Agency, Kallas emphasized that the recent developments, particularly the launch of the new peace initiative, have injected fresh momentum into diplomatic efforts. She confirmed that the EU is actively examining ways to contribute to the plan’s 20 provisions with the goal of achieving a permanent truce and sustainable peace.
Kallas highlighted the EU’s longstanding role as the largest provider of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people. She noted that since July, Brussels has been working to ensure access to Gaza and repair vital infrastructure, including water desalination plants and border crossings.
She stressed that the EU must be a key player at the negotiating table, not just a financial contributor. Citing Europe’s political and economic expertise, Kallas emphasized its role in supporting peace and reconstruction efforts.
On coordination with the US, Kallas stated that regular consultations are underway with Washington and Arab partners to define the role of each stakeholder, especially in implementing early humanitarian measures and facilitating hostage releases.
Kallas reiterated the EU’s full support for the Palestinian Authority, describing it as the legitimate partner in any peace process and the EU’s primary recipient of aid to sustain the two-state solution framework.
