Three Killed in Floods in Southeastern Bulgaria

Doha: Three people were killed in floods following heavy rains in southeastern Bulgaria.

According to Qatar News Agency, local sources reported that among the three people killed in the Black Sea resort of Elenite were two rescuers, one of them a border policeman, while the third died in a hotel after water levels rose.

Videos posted on social media showed torrents of muddy water sweeping away cars along one of Elenite’s main streets.

These rains are among the heaviest the region has witnessed in recent times, prompting Bulgarian authorities to declare a state of emergency in the southeastern and northwestern regions of the country.
