The Minister of Labor briefs the Dutch representative in Palestine on the Ministry’s interventions to support the labor sector

Ramallah – Ma’an – The Minister of Labor, Dr. Enas Atari, the Dutch representative to Palestine, Michel Rintnaar, highlighted the interventions and policies developed by the Ministry in order to create new job opportunities and preserve existing ones, such as opening new foreign labor markets, preparing the workforce to increase its productivity, improving the quality of its work, and raising its ability to compete.

Dr. Attari referred to the reforms that the Ministry of Labor seeks to achieve to improve the situation in the labor sector, especially amending the Palestinian Labor Law in order to protect the rights of the worker and the employer, and monitoring the application of the minimum wage in a way that contributes to achieving social protection for male and female workers.

Dr. Attari discussed with the Dutch representative current and future cooperation mechanisms to support the Palestinian labor sector, in light of the difficult economic conditions that our people are experiencing after the recent I
sraeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

Dr. Attari pointed to the latest developments in the political and economic situation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and the impact of the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza since the seventh of last October and its repercussions on the labor sector, workers and the Palestinian labor market, as thousands of workers lost their job opportunities in Palestine, including workers working inside The Green Line in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and workers in the local labor market, which led to high rates of poverty and unemployment, as there are about half a million unemployed people in Palestine.

Dr. Attari stressed that our priorities in the Palestinian government are to cease fire on our people in Gaza, and to immediately begin the reconstruction process and implement relief programs to help the Gaza Strip.

In turn, the Dutch representative indicated that the events of October 7 created a difficult reality, expressing his hope to find a solid plan to get out of the curre
nt situation, noting the need to improve economic activity in Palestine and deliver relief aid urgently and immediately.
