Gaza – Together – The Coastal Municipalities Water Utility denounced the repeated robberies to which many of the Utility’s water and sanitation facilities were subjected, especially the recent robberies in the city of Rafah at the beginning of the Israeli occupation’s invasion of the city, especially the water and sewage treatment plant in Tal Al-Sultan, through the theft of solar panels and a station. Ibn Taymiyyah desalination, Al-Zuhur Well, the UNDP sewage pumping station, the Turkish tank, and Al-Furqan Well.
This is in addition to many previous cases of theft attacks on the Authority’s main facilities, including the theft of electrical panels and shore well cables belonging to the seawater desalination plant in the middle of the Gaza Strip, and the theft of the Authority’s main stores in the Mawasi Khan Yunis area, where these robberies resulted in the theft of the store’s contents of spare parts and maintenance requirements. For water and sanitation facilities, estimated at approximately $9 million, w
hich prevents the provision of the necessary services at a minimum to our people in different areas of the Gaza Strip.
The Coastal Municipalities Water Utility appealed to various official government agencies, civil work institutions, and popular committees to help maintain the various facilities affiliated with the Utility, especially in light of the repeated attacks that targeted many important facilities, which have already affected the Water Utility’s capabilities to continue providing residents with water and sanitation services, especially in In light of the continuation of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, we also appeal to all concerned and official authorities to pursue all attackers on public facilities and return everything that was stolen, including generators, electromechanical equipment, solar panels, water tanks, and diesel, in order to enable the authority to continue providing its services to our people in various residential neighborhoods. e aggravation of the drinking water supply crisis and the overflow of sewage, as the problem is steadily worsening with the continued repeated refusal of the occupation to allow the entry of equipment and maintenance spare parts necessary for the aforementioned facilities. The
Water Authority stressed that it reserves its right to deal with what is required by the law and prevailing custom in such cases. It will go to the competent authorities to assume their responsibilities and hold accountable the people who committed these crimes, noting the existence of lists of names of those who attacked the water facilities and threatened to use firearms and knives, as well as proof of the thefts, which show pictures and videos of the robberies and the people responsible for the thefts.
In this context, the Coastal Municipalities Water Utility said that it will not abandon its national duty towards our people in all governorates of the Gaza Strip in a way that alleviates the burden of the harsh conditions on them, a
nd that it will continue to provide water and sanitation services with the available equipment and spare parts through its field crews and in cooperation with the crews.
