New York:Syrian President Ahmed Al Sharaa addressed the 81st UN General Assembly, focusing on state recovery through measures such as territorial unification, arms control, institutional rebuilding, sanction relief, and transitional justice.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al Sharaa expressed Syria's continued rejection of Israeli actions in the region, affirming Syrian sovereignty over the Golan Heights and declaring any annexation measures void under UN Resolution 497.
The Syrian president recommitted to the terms of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, calling for an Israeli withdrawal to the lines established on December 8, 2024.
Al Sharaa also highlighted the efforts of the "Breath of Freedom" task force, comprising eight nations, which has successfully destroyed 42 chemical bombs, thereby restoring Syria's full standing with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Additionally, he stated that Damascus is fully cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
