Syrian Culture Minister Highlights Arabic Language’s Role in Promoting Justice and Integrity

Doha: HE Minister of Culture of the Syrian Arab Republic, Mohammad Yassin Saleh, affirmed that the Arabic language is not merely a tool of communication, but a vessel of meaning, a bearer of values, and a shaper of awareness. He noted the relationship between language and the fight against corruption is fundamentally grounded in the consolidation of ethical values and the integrity of public discourse.

According to Qatar News Agency, during the celebration of World Arabic Language Day, His Excellency explained that the Arabic language, with its deep-rooted history and rich civilizational heritage, has over the centuries contributed to entrenching the concepts of justice, honesty, responsibility, and accountability. These values, he noted, are the very foundation upon which any genuine project for integrity and transparency is built. He further emphasized that language represents one of the key pillars of good governance and the formulation of public policies based on clarity and truth.

The Syrian Minister of Culture stressed that his ministry places great importance on safeguarding the Arabic language and strengthening its presence across various fields, contributing to reinforcing a shared national identity and building a responsible public discourse. He underscored that genuine reform begins with honest speech and a responsible language that calls things by their proper names and restores to words their ethical and intellectual weight.

In a related context, His Excellency noted in his address-delivered on the occasion of World Arabic Language Day, which coincided with the State of Qatar’s hosting of the eleventh session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption-that corruption is not limited to administrative dysfunction alone, but also manifests in discourse that seeks to justify it and in concepts stripped of their true meanings. He warned this leads to distorted awareness and the erosion of truth. He added that clear and responsible language enhances trust, upholds justice, and entrenches integrity in public practice.
