Supreme Judiciary Council Achieves Key Milestone in Court Facilities Project

Lusail City:The Supreme Judiciary Council (SJC) has announced the completion of more than 50% of the new designs for its permanent facilities project, which encompasses the Courts Complex in Lusail City and the Court of Cassation headquarters in the Wadi Al Sail area. This initiative is part of a national effort to enhance justice systems.

According to Qatar News Agency, the designs, developed in collaboration with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), aim to establish a high-functioning operational model for courts, aligned with the SJC's 2025-2030 Strategy. This strategy emphasizes improving litigation, settlement, and mediation pathways, promoting the division of estates amicably, and advancing digital justice methods through artificial intelligence to enhance efficiency and timeliness.

Dr. Hassan bin Lahdan Al Hassan Al Mohannadi, President of the Supreme Judiciary Council and the Court of Cassation, stated that reaching this stage of the design process is crucial in realizing the Council's vision of modernizing the judicial environment. The project is seen as a strategic investment extending beyond the construction of modern buildings to developing an integrated judicial environment that ensures procedural efficiency and adapts to future service developments.

The SJC has recognized the role of Qatar Plan, led by HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani, in selecting the site for the new Court of Cassation headquarters on Khalifa Street in the Wadi Al Sail area. This choice highlights the integration of urban development with cultural identity.

The council selected the winning designs through an international architectural competition launched in 2023. The designs balance Qatari and Islamic heritage with modern architectural engineering, incorporating sustainable practices with a three-star GSAS rating. The collaboration with Qatar Museums to refine interior design and examine artistic elements like Islamic ornamentation and Arabic calligraphy emphasizes the importance of Qatar's cultural identity in the project.

The Courts Complex in Lusail City's Wadi Al Banat area covers approximately 100,000 square meters, with a built-up area of 300,000 square meters. It consists of 51 buildings containing 94 courtrooms, uniting all courts and judicial committees while ensuring separate circulation paths for the public, judiciary, and operations.

In the Wadi Al Sail area, the Court of Cassation headquarters spans 75,000 square meters on a 70,000-square-meter site. It includes three buildings with four courtrooms and a grand courtroom seating 500 people, featuring architectural designs inspired by traditional Qatari architecture and sand dunes.
