Strong Earthquake Hits Banda Sea in Indonesia

Jakarta, A strong earthquake measuring 7.2 magnitude on the Richter scale rocked Banda Sea in the eastern Indonesian province of Maluku on Wednesday, amid warnings of the possibility of aftershocks.

According to the Indonesian Agency for Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysics (BMKG), the epicenter of the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers.

There have been no reports of casualties or material damage as a result of the earthquake so far, but there were warning of possible aftershocks.

Indonesia is regularly exposed to earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
