Madrid: The Spanish Civil Guard announced the dismantling of a network specialized in smuggling migrants illegally.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Civil Guard stated that four members of the network were arrested in the southeastern province of Murcia on charges of belonging to a “criminal organization and facilitating irregular migration,” without disclosing the nationalities of those detained.
Investigations revealed that the network targeted migrants seeking to reach Spain, transporting them overland from Romania in small buses. Authorities estimated that the group carried out around 50 smuggling operations over the past two years, with each trip involving between 20 and 50 migrants.
The security operation was conducted in coordination with European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) and European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex).
