Shura Council Participates in Asian Parliamentary Meeting in Baku

The Shura Council is taking part in the meeting of the Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, which began Thursday in the Azeri capital, Baku, and will conclude on Friday.

Members of the Shura Council HE Eng. Ahmed bin Hitmi Al Hitmi and HE Nasser bin Mutrif Al Humaidi, are representing the Council at the committee meeting.

On the first day of the meeting, members of the bureau were elected, and the report of the Secretary-General of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly on the work of the committee was reviewed.

The meeting will consider a number of draft resolutions, including: measures to promote cultural diversity and protect cultural heritage in Asia, Asian integration through information and communications technology, and cooperation in the field of health justice.

The agenda also includes draft resolutions on “Asian parliamentarians against corruption,” “women parliamentarians in the Asian Parliamentary Assembly,” “Promoting dialogue and harmony among followers of world religions,” and “Legal and legislative cooperation in combating the smuggling of cultural materials” in addition to “Effective cooperation in combating illicit drug trafficking in Asia.”

Representatives of the councils and parliaments of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, had earlier held a meeting chaired by HE Eng. Ahmed bin Hitmi Al Hitmi, with the aim of coordinating positions and visions among representatives of the Gulf councils participating in the meeting.
