Shura Council Engages in Key Discussions at Asian Parliamentary Assembly in Moscow

Moscow: The Shura Council participated in the meeting of the Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, held on Wednesday in Moscow, Russia. The Shura Council was represented at the meeting by HE Vice President of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly Eng. Ahmed bin Hitmi Al Hitmi and HE member of the Council Yousef bin Ahmed Al Sada.

According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting covered several agenda items, including the election of the Executive Bureau, the presentation of the Secretary-General’s report on the Committee’s activities, and the endorsement of the Russian draft resolution on preserving cultural diversity and promoting multilateral cooperation in Eurasia. The resolution underscored the significance of cultural diversity and dialogue among peoples in achieving peace and sustainable development.

The assembly also evaluated the situation of women parliamentarians in Asia and explored ways to bolster their participation in parliamentary activities. During the discussions, HE Eng. Ahmed bin Hitmi Al Hitmi proposed amending the mechanism for submitting draft resolutions for discussion and adoption at the Assembly’s standing committee meetings. He stated that this amendment would improve work efficiency and enhance institutional coordination within the committees.

Additionally, His Excellency suggested including the topic of socialization in the discussions, citing its essential role in building society and instilling human and developmental values. The Shura Council, represented by HE Eng. Al Hitmi, also took part in the meeting of the Bureau of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, held on the sidelines of the committee’s work.

Participants in the Bureau meeting discussed strategies to advance Asian parliamentary work and improve coordination among specialized committees to fulfill the Assembly’s goals of supporting regional cooperation. The Bureau meeting also addressed the Shura Council’s preparations to host the meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly’s Committee on Budget and Planning, set for next December.
