Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al-Thani, Mohammed Saad Al Mughaiseeb Appointed Members of FIBA Foundation Board


The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced the appointment of HE Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al-Thani and President of the Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) Mohammed Saad Al Mughaiseeb as members of the Board of Directors of the FIBA Foundation for the period of 2023-2027.



According to FIBA, this decision came in appreciation towards their tangible efforts in developing basketball at a global scale, their administrative experience, their distinguished contributions to the development of basketball by supporting clubs and national teams, in addition to their role in Doha hosting the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup, making it the first time its being held in the Middle East.



The appointment of HE Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al-Thani and Mohammed Saad Al Mughaiseeb to one of the highest basketball bodies reflects the confidence that various international organizations such as FIBA have for Qatari cadres, in addition to Qatar’s success in hosting many basketball events and the notable development that basketball has witnessed recently in Qatar that made FIBA award QBF third place in development.



The FIBA Foundation includes an elite group of cadres and experts in the game to develop basketball in all its levels and aspects.



The FIBA Foundation Board of Directors also made an important decision by appointing three women to the Board for the first time, including FIBA Hall of Famer Michelle Timms and World Cup winner Predrag Stojakovic.



During FIBA’s General Assembly meeting held last month, HE Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al-Thani was elected as the new FIBA president for the 2023-2027 cycle, succeeding Hamane Niang.
