Secretary-General of QOC: Qatar Capable of Hosting Distinguished FIBA World Cup 2027 -1

For his part, President of Qatar Basketball Federation Mohammed Saad Almeghaiseeb said that hosting the FIBA World Cup was a historic achievement in the history of Qatari basketball. He noted that the sport has seen great development and stressed that the Qatari edition of the competition will inspire future generations to play the sport. He added that the federation looks forward to welcoming players, fans, and officials in 2027 to take part in FIBA World Cup and celebrate basketball, expressing gratitude to Qatar Olympic Committee and the government for their support.

FIBA President Hamane Niang meanwhile congratulated the Qatari Basketball Federation for winning the right to host the competition, saying that he looks forward to a special FIBA World Cup when Doha hosts it in 2027.

The participation of 32 teams in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027, which will be held in Doha, will be an opportunity for the fans to enrich their experience with this tournament and to attend a larger number of matches, compared to previous editions of the tournament over the past twenty years. Qatar will host Asia’s third consecutive FIBA World Cup in after the 2019 edition was held in China, while the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia will host the 2023 edition next summer.
