Saudi and Tunisian Lifters Shine in Qatar International Cup and Regional Championships

Doha: Competitions continued on Saturday in the 10th edition of the Qatar International Weightlifting Cup 2025, alongside the Arab Weightlifting Championship for seniors, youth, and juniors, as well as the West Asian Weightlifting Championship for the same age categories. The events are organized by the Qatar Weightlifting Federation and will continue until December 27.

According to Qatar News Agency, the second day of competition saw intense performances across the three championships, featuring various weight categories and divisions. In the Arab Weightlifting Championship men's 65kg category, Saudi lifter Siraj Al Salim took home three gold medals, showcasing his dominance with lifts of 129kg in the snatch, 166kg in the clean and jerk, and a total of 295kg. Syrian competitor Jaafar Mia earned silver medals in the clean and jerk and total, while Tunisia's Amin Bouhajba claimed the silver in the snatch. Egypt's Sadeq Mahmoud rounded out the podium with three bronze medals.

The youth men's 65kg category highlighted Saudi Arabia's Ali Majid, who captured three golds with impressive lifts. His strong showing was followed by Syria's Jaafar Mia, who secured silver medals in the clean and jerk and total. In the junior men's 65kg category, Saudi lifter Abdullah Ibrahim also achieved a gold medal sweep.

In the women's categories, Tunisia's Mayssa Khadhraoui was a standout competitor in the Arab Championship women's 48kg category, winning two gold medals. Meanwhile, Algeria's Nadia Kotbi and Saudi Arabia's Ghada Abdulrahman also performed commendably, securing various medals in their respective categories.

The West Asian Weightlifting Championship saw Saudi lifter Siraj Al-Salim replicate his success, claiming three gold medals in the men's 65kg category. Additionally, the Qatar International Weightlifting Cup highlighted South Korea's Kim Hyuk-Song and Thailand's Khemika Kamanodjariya securing gold medals in their respective categories.

The ongoing championships in Doha continue to exhibit exceptional talent and competitiveness among regional and international athletes.
