Russian, Iranian Presidents Sign Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement

Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian on Friday signed a new comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between Russia and Iran. The Russian President said, during a press conference following his meeting with the Iranian President in Moscow, that the talks with the Iranian President were comprehensive, noting that Moscow attaches utmost importance to strengthening relations with Tehran.

According to Qatar News Agency, Putin stressed that the partnership between Russia and Iran is constantly developing and that the relations between them are broad and fruitful for both parties, adding that the two countries have a common desire to raise bilateral relations to a new level. He noted that the partnership agreement between Russia and Iran aims to create conditions for stable and sustainable development.

He said that the new agreement between Russia and Iran sets ambitious goals, noting that energy is the most important point in relations between Russia and Iran. Putin indicated that building two new units of the Bushehr nuclear power plant will contribute significantly to enhancing energy security in Iran.

He emphasized that the development of the international corridor “North-South” opens up new opportunities for cooperation in the field of transportation between Russia and Iran. Putin added that the next meeting of the joint government commission between Russia and Iran will be held in the first half of the year in Moscow.

For his part, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that Russia plays a major role in Iran’s foreign policy, noting that its priority is to maintain good neighborliness. The Iranian President added that during the negotiations with President Vladimir Putin, he discussed financial and investment issues, as well as the visa-free regime.

Pezeshkian said that the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement with Russia will open a new major chapter in relations between the two countries, noting that the two parties agreed on the need to continue working in a positive spirit on the regional and international arenas.
