Russian Foreign Minister: Riyadh Talks Focused on Black Sea Maritime Transport Safety

Riyadh: Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, said Tuesday that his country’s talks with the United States yesterday in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, primarily focused on issues related to safe maritime transport in the Black Sea. In his remarks, Lavrov stated that Russia supports the return of the Black Sea Initiative in a form better suited to all. He expressed concern about the food security of the countries of Africa and the global south and east.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Russian Foreign Minister accused European states of contradicting one another regarding ending the war in Ukraine. This contrasts with US President Donald Trump’s administration, which, Lavrov claimed, is already discussing initial criteria for ending the conflict.

Earlier today, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov mentioned that Moscow and Washington are on the same page about carrying on with talks. However, no further details have been provided. Peskov added that although there are currently no plans for direct talks between the US and Russian Presidents, such communication could be organized quickly if necessary.
