Doha: Romania's Defense Ministry announced on Sunday that its air defenses successfully intercepted and shot down another drone within the nation's territorial waters.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Romanian Air Force deployed an F-16 aircraft to intercept the drone, which was detected entering the country's airspace without authorization at 10:13 on Sunday, July 26th. The drone was safely downed 12 kilometers northeast of Sulina. The ministry withheld additional details regarding the incident.
This event is the third occurrence of drones being shot down over Romanian territory since Friday. President Nicusor Dan stated that investigations are ongoing for the drones intercepted on Saturday and Sunday. However, he confirmed that the drone downed on Friday morning was identified as a Shahed-type drone, which Russia has been using in its operations against Ukraine.
President Dan expressed strong disapproval of the incursions, labeling them as Russian violations of Romanian airspace. He stated that such actions are unacceptable and emphasized that they cannot be tolerated.
