QU’S FOUNDATION PROGRAM AND MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND HIGHER EDUCATION COLLABORATE ON AL-QABAS PROGRAM 2023 TO PREPARE STUDENTS FOR UNIVERSITY LIFE

In collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Qatar University’s (QU) Foundation Program (FP), under the Deanship of General Studies, will organize the Al-Qabas Program 2023 for the fifth year in a row under the theme ‘To prepare high school students for a successful university experience.’ The student outreach initiative will be held after school hours virtually via MS Teams for grades 10 and 11, high school students from 12-13 February 2023. The on-campus program will take place for female students from 5-7 February 2023 and for male students from 19-21 February 2023.

The goal of the program is to raise awareness among Qatari high school students regarding different skills needed to succeed in STEM and medicine fields, such as math and English skills in addition to test taking strategies. It also aims to prepare students for university life through a variety of educational sessions that are offered in English to develop their English and math skills, thereby paving the way for enrollment in STEM colleges and enhancing students’ chances for success in their future colleges. The program also includes class visits to simulate a university experience.

Al-Qabas Program also includes orientation sessions about QU admission requirements. Following the completion of the program, students will be awarded certificates of participation.

The fourth edition of the program was offered in March 2022 in two stages. Al-Qabas Virtual Program 2022 was held after school hours, which saw 183 high school students from grades 10 and 11 participating, along with faculty and staff members from QU. Eleven schools were selected to participate to attend on campus college visits where 125 students attended.
