Doha: Qatar Universitys (QU) College of Law is organizing a peer-reviewed scientific conference entitled “International Commercial Legislation: Recent Trends and Future Visions,” in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the State of Qatar, the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and the Qatar Chamber, which will take place on Nov. 24, 2024, in the conference hall of the College of Law.
Dean of QUs College of Law Dr. Talal Abdullah Al Emadi pointed out that QU Law was keen to select a vital and contemporary topic for the conference, so that there is a bilateral dimension between law and economics as well as the international dimension in response to research priorities at QU. Hence the partnership with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the vital participation of the UNCITRAL. Dean Dr. Al-Emadi also expressed his hope that the conference will result in practical outcomes and recommendations, as it will be built on discussions and interaction between legal
and economic professionals at the national, regional and international levels. Finally, Dean Dr. Al-Emadi stressed the importance of such conferences in creating a scientific environment that helps to exchange experiences between researchers from different legal and practical backgrounds.
Chair of the Scientific Committee for the Conference and Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies Dr. Faisal Misfer Al Hababi emphasized the importance of the topics covered in the conference. He stressed that QU Law is keen to play its role towards the national community and to assume its position among the leading law schools in the world in providing legal review, awareness, and making research contributions regarding various legislation and legal issues. He stated that the conference would contribute to supporting the legislative process in the region, and would encourage researchers to address contemporary legal problems.

. Mohamed Salem Abouelfarag expressed his expectations for the scientific contributions that the conference will make in the field of commercial law. He stated that speakers would present peer-reviewed research papers in three sessions, with the hope of provoking discussions on them in the conference proceedings. Dr. Abouelfarag stated that the conference would come up with recommendations for researchers and decision-makers in this field.
The International Commercial Legislations Conference will see the participation of HE Chairman of Qatar Chamber Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Thani and HE Secretary-General of the UNCITRAL and Director of the International Trade Law Division at the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs Anna Jobin Brett. The conference also brings together experts to discuss three topics: provisions of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (Known as the “CISG” or the “Vienna Convention”), the impact of international model laws on drafting national co
mmercial legislation, and applications of the UNCITRAL model law on arbitration in national regimes QU Law is a leading law school in the region and globally, known for its high-quality academic programs, accomplished faculty, and successful graduates in the job market. QU Law has earned international recognition from academic accreditation institutions in France and the UK.
Through this conference, QU Law aims to advance legal knowledge and scientific research in areas that are research priorities for Qatar and to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
