QSCCB Engages in Gulf Workshop on Disability Rights

Riyadh: Qatar Social and Cultural Center for the Blind (QSCCB) participated in a pivotal dialogue workshop focused on the third report concerning the implementation and monitoring of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. This significant gathering took place at the GCC General Secretariat's headquarters in Riyadh.

According to Qatar News Agency, the workshop convened representatives from pertinent authorities, individuals with disabilities, and civil society organizations across the Gulf region. The aim was to assess the current status of the CRPD implementation, evaluate progress, and address challenges in the advancement of rights for persons with disabilities.

Discussions during the workshop centered around the indicators and general features of the draft third report, including the methodology behind its preparation. Participants also emphasized the critical role of organizations representing persons with disabilities in enhancing their involvement and ensuring their perspectives are considered during the report preparation and obligation monitoring phases related to the convention.

QSCCB Chairman Faisal Al Kooheji highlighted that the center's involvement in this Gulf dialogue workshop underscores the necessity of engaging persons with disabilities and their representative bodies in CRPD discussions and monitoring. This ensures that their aspirations and voices reach the relevant authorities and decision-makers.

Al Kooheji remarked that the workshop serves as a vital opportunity to update on the latest developments regarding the CRPD implementation in GCC countries. It also facilitates the exchange of expertise and experiences among entities dedicated to disability rights, thereby bolstering the efforts to promote inclusion and empower persons with disabilities to participate fully in society.
