Geneva: A delegation from Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) participated in the Statutory Meetings of Red Cross and Red Crescent, held in Geneva, Switzerland. The meetings included the General Assembly of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the Council of Delegates, and the 34th International Conference of Red Cross and Red Crescent.
According to Qatar News Agency, HE President of QRCS Yousef bin Ali Al Khater led the delegation, which attended an introductory session for the Council of Delegates and General Assembly. They also participated in a meeting organized by the IFRC Regional Office in the MENA region, attended by Jagan Chapagain, Secretary-General of IFRC. Additionally, the delegation took part in a consultative meeting held by the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization (ARCO).
QRCS’s delegation also engaged in the Youth Forum 2024 alongside representatives of youth networks and senior leaders of IFRC. The forum aimed to facilitate effective engagement
of youth leaders and volunteers, gather their thoughts and views for the Statutory Meetings, and influence policies and decision-making related to humanitarian activities impacting their communities.
On the sidelines of the event, a “Humanitarian Village” exhibition was inaugurated, showcasing humanitarian work through sections for various participating organizations. QRCS’s section, titled “Collaborative Paths to Effective Humanitarian Diplomacy,” highlighted Qatar’s and QRCS’s efforts in humanitarian diplomacy, with participation from Qatar’s National Committee of International Humanitarian Law. The opening ceremony was attended by HE Permanent Representative of State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva Dr. Hind bint Abdulrahman Al Muftah.
During the Council of Delegates 2024 meetings, QRCS Secretary-General Faisal Mohamed Al Emadi supported a resolution calling for respect and support for principled humanitarian action. He emphasized the importance of supporting and respecting neutral, indepe
ndent, and impartial humanitarian action. In line with this, QRCS organized a side event on “Humanitarian Diplomacy: Key Issues, Challenges, and Opportunities for Enhanced Effectiveness,” where President Yousef bin Ali Al Khater highlighted the significance of integrating humanitarian issues into diplomatic decisions to ensure dignity and protection for vulnerable groups.
