New York:The State of Qatar, represented by HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi, took part in the 19th Global Governance Group Ministerial Meeting, coinciding with the 81st UN General Assembly session.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Minister emphasized Qatar's dedication to international law and the UN Charter, advocating for collective solutions to global challenges through cooperation and political will for the public good. He highlighted the Global Governance Group as a means to restore international trust and solidarity, respecting state sovereignty and promoting collaboration with the UN.
Addressing the Strait of Hormuz crisis, the Minister underscored Qatar's stance on unimpeded navigation as a non-negotiable principle. He called for reopening the strait in line with international law and UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), warning that continued closure threatens regional and global economic interests by disrupting maritime trade.
The Minister reiterated Qatar's focus on diplomacy and mediation to resolve the Strait of Hormuz issue, advocating for regional consensus and adherence to international law to maintain security and stability.
In the realm of digital transformation, the Minister affirmed Qatar's leadership in AI to support sustainable development. He cited the GovAI Program and AI research initiatives by Qatar Foundation and Hamad Bin Khalifa University, emphasizing international cooperation in AI for the benefit of humanity, particularly for the Global South.
Qatar remains committed to supporting the Global Governance Group and working with partners to build an effective and inclusive international order.
