Qatar’s Role in Empowering Youth Highlighted at Global Summit

Geneva: HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Dr. Hend Abdulrahman Al Muftah, participated today in the second edition of the Global Youth Summit for Change, organized by the Youth Center for Dialogue and Peace and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in Geneva. In her address at the summit, she emphasized the significant transformations reshaping global landscapes and highlighted the urgent need for youth participation in tackling interconnected challenges.

According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Al Muftah underscored the importance of young people as genuine partners in addressing issues such as conflicts, climate change, food security, technological development, and social justice. She elaborated on Qatar's commitment to youth empowerment through initiatives aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly focusing on human development. The State of Qatar actively promotes a culture of volunteerism, active citizenship, innovation, and entrepreneurship among its youth.

Dr. Al Muftah emphasized the pivotal role of young people in climate action, peacebuilding, digital innovation, and social entrepreneurship. She highlighted Qatar's efforts in empowering youth through programs like the Qatar Youth Delegates to the United Nations Programme, which has prepared 53 young individuals to represent Qatar in international forums. These efforts are complemented by initiatives like the Doha Forum: Youth Edition, which connects young voices to global policy discussions.

She announced that the 24th edition of the Doha Forum will take place on December 5-6, 2026, under the theme "Redefining Global Trust." The forum aims to explore trust in the global context, diplomacy, trustworthy institutions, and effective cooperation to address contemporary challenges. Dr. Al Muftah expressed her anticipation for substantial youth participation in these discussions.

Concluding her remarks, Dr. Al Muftah stressed the importance of shifting from creating policies for youth to designing them with youth, advocating for tangible partnerships and initiatives that contribute to a peaceful, sustainable, just, and innovative world.
