Qatar’s Rashid and Mashari Secure Historic Padel Gold at Asian Games

Nagoya:Japan Team Qatar's Rashid Nawaf and Mashari Nawaf made history by winning the gold medal in padel at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, defeating the Malaysian duo in straight sets.

According to Qatar News Agency, this victory marks the first time Qatar has won a gold medal in padel at the Asian Games. The Qatari pair triumphed over Malaysia's Aidan Yunus and Christian Chin with a score of 6-3, 6-1 in the final match.

Throughout the tournament, Team Qatar showcased exceptional skill. They began by defeating Kuwait's Abdulaziz Mayouf and Fouad Behbehani in the Round of 16, followed by a victory over UAE's Abdullah Al-Abdullah and Faris Al Janahi in the quarterfinals. The semifinals saw them overcome Iran's Hami Golestan and Arya Roghani, all in straight sets, leading to their historic win against Malaysia in the final.

This achievement elevates Qatar's medal count at the current Asian Games to 16, comprising five gold, six silver, and five bronze medals. The event in Japan is set to conclude tomorrow.
