Doha: Under a legislative and institutional system that has consolidated the status of Qatari women, the journey of empowering them has become a model that reflects investment in human beings and their role in building society and achieving sustainable development. Laws and constitutions guarantee women's rights to education, work, and active participation in various fields, while providing a supportive environment to achieve a balance between their family role and their contribution to national development.
According to Qatar News Agency, feminist models have gained educational and academic paths full of achievement and transformation, through which women have moved from learning and specialization positions to the fields of scientific research, academic leadership, and knowledge creation. They have benefited from opportunities in education, higher education, scholarships, and professional development, contributing to building national competencies capable of contributing to various sectors.
The supportive environment provided to Qatari women in the education sector has enabled them to overcome challenges and occupy significant administrative positions. They view education not just as teaching, but as a message, a responsibility, and a profession that evaluates behavior and leaves a real impact. Official studies and statistical bulletins issued by the Department of Educational Planning, Policies, and Innovation at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) highlighted that 4,031 female Qatari teachers taught in government schools, with more than 30 in private schools.
The studies also showed that the number of Qatari women in the educational administrative sector amounts to 5,176 in government schools and more than 50 in private schools. This highlights Qatari women's standing and their ability to manage educational institutions that offer the best educational models. Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs Maha Zayed Al Qaqaa Al Ruwaili emphasized the significant role Qatari women have played since the launch of formal education in Qatar.
She noted that women were among the first national cadres to contribute to building modern schools, expanding to include administration, guidance, supervision, research, and development, reaching leadership and decision-making positions. The arrival of women to lead MOEHE represents a prominent milestone in Qatari women's journey in the education sector. HE Sheikha Ahmed Al Mahmoud became the first Qatari woman to hold a ministerial role in 2003, followed by HE Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi in 2021, and HE Lolwah bint Rashid bin Mohammed Al Khater in 2024.
Al Ruwaili stressed that the importance of this journey extends beyond ministerial positions, encompassing a broad female presence at various leadership levels within the ministry. Women occupy numerous leadership and supervisory roles, confirming their pivotal role in leading and developing the educational process. The 2025/2026 academic year saw remarkable growth in female students joining scientific and specialized tracks in government schools, with a 4.2% increase in scientific track enrollment and a 12.2% growth in specialized schools.
Al Ruwaili emphasized that these trends reflect the success of the ministry's efforts in expanding quality educational options, enhancing women's presence in fields of science, technology, and related specializations. Investing in women also involves their participation in leading and teaching at specialized educational institutions, contributing to integrated environments that open promising horizons for female students in science, technology, innovation, and finance.
The Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs affirmed that empowering women in Qatar's education sector is a strategic development priority and a long-term investment in human capital. Women continue to play a vital role through diverse contributions to teaching, leadership, research, and innovation, preparing an educated and creative generation capable of advancing Qatar's aspirations for a knowledge-based society and sustainable development.
President of Pre-University Education at Qatar Foundation Abeer Al Khalifa echoed these sentiments, highlighting the pivotal role of Qatari women in shaping the future of education and preparing generations for national advancement. Indicators from Qatar Foundation's Pre-University Education sector reflect the growing and influential presence of Qatari women across educational and administrative levels, with 80% of Qatari female employees holding higher academic qualifications.
Al Khalifa stressed that investing in women's education and empowerment is a strategic investment in Qatar's future, with Qatari women's achievements in education serving as a source of pride and inspiration. Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at the College of Nursing at Qatar University Dr. Noof Al Kuwari highlighted another dimension of Qatari women's empowerment, combining professional practice, academia, and institutional leadership.
Dr. Al Kuwari's academic and professional journey, guided by a commitment to lifelong learning, began in clinical practice and transitioned into academia, where she contributes to the education and development of future nursing professionals. Her leadership role and academic milestones underscore the importance of a supportive environment in enabling her pursuit of postgraduate studies and leadership responsibilities.
Assistant Dean for Sciences and Applied Sciences at the College of Arts and Sciences at Qatar University Dr. Fatima Al Khayyat affirmed that her academic career has been a continuous journey of learning and development. Moving into academia allowed her to prepare a new generation of researchers, with support provided by the state playing a crucial role in achieving her academic and professional goals.
Dr. Al Khayyat's research focuses on developing environmentally friendly pest control methods, contributing to sustainable development in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. She emphasized that academic work represents a mission and responsibility toward society, with Qatari women's achievements reflecting the strong emphasis on investing in people and empowering women.
