Qatari newspapers highlighted Tuesday the Shura Council’s unanimous approval of the draft constitutional amendments, which were proposed based on the directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.

The Qatari dailies underlined that the unanimous approval of the draft constitutional amendments, after constructive and in-depth discussions, reflects the great keenness of Their Excellencies the members of the Shura Council, headed by HE Speaker of the Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, to strengthen national unity, promote equal citizenship in rights and duties, and consolidate the principle of justice and the rule of law.

This milestone step paves the way for a popular referendum on the constitutional amendments, based on HH the Amir’s keenness on promoting popular participation in public affairs, and involving all citizens in shaping the features of a better future governed by law, and a stronger and more cohesive nation, the newspapers stressed.

In its editorial entitled “Milestone Historica
l Phase,” Al-Watan said the Shura Councils unanimous approval of the draft constitutional amendments reflects the keenness of the Shura Council’s members and the Qatari people to strengthen national unity, consolidate the principle of justice and the rule of law, and achieve the supreme interest of the country, in accordance with the directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.

The approval of these constitutional amendments came after constructive and in-depth discussions, characterized by the keenness of Their Excellencies the members of the Shura Council to translate the directives of HH the Amir at the opening of the fourth session of the first legislative term of the Council, which outlined a comprehensive plan to enhance the development and advancement of the State of Qatar, establishing an important stage in the history of our beloved country, Al-Watan said.

Members of the Shura Council have pledged to HH the Amir and the Qatari people to continue to carry out their national role with f
ull responsibility and sincerity, in an effort to strengthen national unity and consolidate the pillars of the state based on justice and the rule of law. Their approval of these amendments confirms their keenness on these principles and their dedication to achieving and consolidating them, Al-Watan stressed.

In the same context, Al-Sharq said the Shura Council’s unanimous approval of the draft constitutional amendments, which were propose based on the directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, reflects the great keenness of Their Excellencies the members of the Shura Council, headed by HE Speaker of the Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, to strengthen national unity, promote equal citizenship in rights and duties, and consolidate the principle of justice and the rule of law.

In its editorial entitled “Consensus on Constitutional Amendments,” Al-Sharq said these constitutional amendments are based on the lofty directives and insightful visions included in HH the Amir’s historic speech at
the opening of the fourth session of the Shura Council, and His Highness’s responsibility and duty towards the homeland and the people, aiming to achieve the supreme interest of the state, and enhance the values of justice and equality in rights and duties among members of the Qatari society. The constitutional and legislative amendments related to them aim towards two main goals: keenness on the unity of the people, and equal citizenship in rights and duties.
