Qatari Newspapers Editorials

Doha: In their editorials on Sunday, Qatari newspapers focused on the ongoing efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and secure a prisoner and hostage exchange deal after more than ten months of the ongoing genocide waged by the Israeli entity against the Palestinian people.

The newspapers urged the international community to fulfill its responsibilities, support the proposed ceasefire in Gaza, and work on facilitating the delivery of aid to the Palestinians who are suffering immensely.

In its editorial, Al-Sharq newspaper said that after more than 10 months of genocide against the Palestinian people, which resulted so far in over 133,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of whom are children and women, as well as massive destruction and a catastrophic humanitarian crisis, efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and secure a prisoner and hostage exchange deal continue to falter. This is due to the delaying tactics of the extreme right-wing Israeli government and the stubbornness of it
s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the newspaper explained.

It noted that procrastination and maneuvering have been Netanyahu’s approach for nearly nine months, as he keeps adding more conditions each time, indifferent to the fate of the detained hostages, or the blood of innocent people. He disregards the International Court of Justice’s orders and the UN Security Council’s resolution calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops, prisoner exchange, reconstruction, and the return of displaced persons.

Al-Sharq concluded by affirming that the State of Qatar, as part of its commitment to its role in joint mediation, spares no effort to end the aggression, release prisoners and detainees, avoid the repercussions of regional escalation, and establish peace, highlighting Qatar’s active diplomatic efforts and intensive communications with all parties, including the recent phone call held last Friday between HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, and US President Joe
Biden.

In turn, Al-Watan newspaper said that around 100,000 Palestinians have been displaced from the eastern part of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza over the past two days due to the ongoing intensive bombardment by the occupying forces, adding that 20 shelter centers have been put out of service due to the continued intense airstrikes and evacuation orders issued by the occupying forces.

The forced displacement is ongoing as the Israeli occupation forces continue to commit further massacres against Palestinian families in the Gaza Strip, resulting in dozens of martyrs and wounded amidst massive destruction and worsening famine, the newspaper said, adding that the number of martyrs reached dozens by early Saturday, and several Palestinians were injured after the occupation’s aircraft targeted the tents of displaced people east of Deir al-Balah.

The newspaper concluded by calling on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities, support the proposed ceasefire in Gaza, and work on facilitating t
he delivery of aid to the Palestinians who are suffering greatly.
