In the same context, Al-Watan daily said that the international community is optimistic about reaching a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, after more than ten months of war on the Strip. This optimism arose after the Doha talks which were held on Thursday and Friday between mediators, with the aim of concluding a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and releasing hostages and detainees. The joint statement between the State of Qatar, Egypt and the United States described the talks as serious, constructive and positive.

The United States, with the support of the State of Qatar and the Arab Republic of Egypt, has presented to both parties a proposal to narrows the gaps, which is consistent with the principles set out by President Biden on May 31, 2024, and Security Council Resolution 2735. This proposal builds on the points of agreement achieved over the past week and bridges the remaining gaps in a manner that allows for the rapid implementation of the agreement, the paper added.

r held the international community responsible for pressuring to reduce the escalation, address the roots of the conflict by establishing a Palestinian state and implementing the two-state solution, noting that the way has been paved now to achieve a ceasefire agreement, save lives, provide relief to the people of Gaza, and calm regional tensions.

Locally, English newspaper, The Peninsula, noted that Qatar’s football season kicked off with the opening round of the Ooredoo Stars League (OSL) last week, stressing that it will be a crucial football season for Qatar as the national team is hoping to qualify for the FIFA World Cup for the first time after making its debut in the football showpiece as hosts two years ago.

In its editorial titled “Qatars Crucial Football Season”, the paper said Qatar will begin their qualifying campaign against the United Arab Emirates on September 5, making the ongoing OSL matches of utmost importance for the Al Annabi players in their preparations ahead of the big challenge.
