New york: The State of Qatar has reaffirmed its commitment to work with international partners to fortify security and stability in the region. It also pledged ongoing support for the Palestinian people to achieve their legitimate rights, including self-determination, ending occupation, halting settlement activities, and establishing an independent state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with international resolutions and the two-state solution principle.
According to Qatar News Agency, this declaration was made by Her Excellency Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, during the Security Council's quarterly open debate on 'The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question,' held at the UN headquarters in New York.
Her Excellency highlighted the announcement of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, expressing Qatar's hope that it would help consolidate the truce and address the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Qatar, joining eight Arab and Islamic countries at a multilateral summit with US President Donald Trump, announced its membership in the Peace Council. It affirmed its support for the council's mission, as outlined in Security Council Resolution 2803, aiming to establish a permanent ceasefire, reconstruction, and advance towards a lasting peace based on Palestinian self-determination and statehood under international law.
Sheikha Alya noted Qatar's readiness to coordinate with mediators, including Egypt and Turkiye, in forming a Palestinian technocratic committee to govern the Gaza Strip, expressing hope for progress in the agreement's second phase implementation.
HE Qatar's Permanent Representative to the UN asserted Qatar's ongoing contribution through its representative on the Gaza Executive Board to establish effective governance and promote peace and stability in the Gaza Strip.
She emphasized the importance of implementing Security Council Resolution 2803 to secure a comprehensive ceasefire, deliver unrestricted humanitarian aid, reconstruct Gaza, ensure Israeli withdrawal, and prevent Palestinian displacement.
Sheikha Alya underscored the urgent need for early recovery efforts, lifting supply restrictions, rehabilitating infrastructure and hospitals, and opening the Rafah crossing, as per the comprehensive plan.
She declared there is no substitute for the effective agreement implementation, condemning Israeli attacks on Gaza as a dangerous escalation. She called for regional and international efforts to preserve and adhere to the agreement.
HE Qatar's Permanent Representative reiterated Qatar's support for Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, condemning Israeli actions that violate Syrian sovereignty and international law, undermining peace efforts in the region.
HE Sheikha Alya affirmed Qatar's stance supporting Lebanese sovereignty, condemning the Israeli raid on Ain Al Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp as an attack on defenseless Palestinians, a violation of Lebanese sovereignty, and a breach of international law.
