Doha:Qatar University (QU), through its Department of Social Sciences at the College of Arts and Sciences, recently held the Fifth Student Forum on Human Rights. The event was organized in collaboration with the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science (QNCECS) under the theme "Human Rights: A Daily Practice and Social Responsibility."
According to Qatar News Agency, the forum gathered faculty members, students, specialists, and representatives from relevant organizations to discuss the practical application of human rights principles and the enhancement of students' awareness regarding their individual and social responsibilities.
The initiative is part of Qatar University's strategy to strengthen community partnerships and encourage student engagement with societal issues. It aligns with Qatar's national development objectives and the Qatar National Vision 2030, while emphasizing the university's commitment to sustainable development through education and social responsibility.
Since its inception, this forum has aimed to close the gap between understanding human rights and their implementation in everyday life. The latest edition highlighted raising awareness among university students about their role in advocating and upholding human rights.
Dr. Mohamed Faraj, Head of the Department of Social Sciences at the College of Arts and Sciences, emphasized the university's efforts in fostering community awareness and understanding of human rights. He noted the forum's alignment with Qatar's commitment to human dignity, particularly as the world faces significant challenges necessitating enhanced awareness and application of human rights principles.
Dr. Sama Al Hajri, a consultant at the Ministry of Social Development and Family, pointed out the forum offered a platform for interaction among students, faculty, and specialists. Her focus was on "Digital Protection of the Rights of Students and Employees in Educational Institutions," stressing the need for collaboration between educational institutions and organizations to raise awareness on digital rights and responsibilities.
The forum concluded by recognizing participants and announcing competition winners. The Best Poster award was presented to Jawaher Abdullah Darban, Al Dana Al Juhani, and Reem Al Shahrani. The Best Campaign accolade went to Ghalia Awad, Alya Al Marri, Nada Hamza, Moza Al Mohannadi, Al Jouri Shuaib, Marwa Ali, and Safaa Abu Zaid. Layla Arslan, Samiha Al Marri, Masa Ghazal, and Sara Fakhro won the Best Presentation award, while the Debate category was won by the "Human Rights Are an Individual Responsibility" team consisting of Lina Suleiman, Mai Al Naimi, and Mohsena Al Sharqi.
