Qatar U-19 Handball Team to Face Jordan in Asian Championship Quarterfinals

Amman: The Qatar U-19 handball team is set to face hosts Jordan on Friday in the quarterfinals of the 11th Asian Men's Youth Handball Championship, which is currently underway in Amman, Jordan, and will continue until August 31.

According to Qatar News Agency, the tournament serves as a qualifier for the 2027 IHF Men's Youth World Championship, to be hosted by North Macedonia. Qatar advanced to the quarterfinals after an impressive performance, finishing top of Group B with a perfect record of eight points.

The Qatari team began its campaign with a 30-22 victory over Saudi Arabia, followed by a 30-19 win against Kuwait. They continued their dominance with a 24-22 victory over Iran and concluded the group stage with a commanding 42-29 triumph over Syria.

On the other hand, Jordan secured its place in the quarterfinals after finishing fourth in Group A with two points, achieving its only victory in the group stage against India, whom it narrowly defeated 25-24.

Qatar will aim to maintain its winning streak and secure a spot in the semifinals, while also keeping its hopes alive for qualifying for the 2027 World Championship and competing for the continental title. The Qatari side enters the quarterfinal clash with confidence following an impressive group-stage campaign, as it seeks to reinforce its position among Asia's leading youth handball teams.
