Doha: Qatari shooters Rashid Saleh Al Athba and Reem Al Sharshani clinched the gold medal in the mixed team skeet competition on the fifth day of the Asian Shotgun Championships Doha 2026, held at the Lusail Shooting Complex. The championship, featuring 196 shooters from 17 countries, will continue until next Wednesday.

According to Qatar News Agency, today’s competitions included qualifying rounds and the final for the mixed team skeet event. The Qatari duo, Rashid Saleh Al Athba and Reem Al Sharshani, emerged victorious with a score of 47 targets. The South Korean team of Jang Soo-hwang and Koki Jang secured the silver with 45 targets, while the Kazakh team of Eduard Yashchenko and Asim Urnbay finished third, earning the bronze with 39 targets. This victory brought Qatar’s medal tally in the skeet competition to six: three gold and three silver.

With the skeet competitions concluded, the focus shifts to the trap shooting competition, which begins tomorrow with official training sessions for all categories. The qualifying rounds for the trap event start on Sunday, followed by the junior and youth individual finals and awards ceremony on Monday. The individual finals for men, women, and mixed junior teams, along with the awards ceremony, are scheduled for Tuesday. The championship will wrap up on Wednesday, January 21st, with the mixed team final and the prize-giving ceremony.

Jassim Shaheen Al Sulaiti, Secretary General of Qatar Shooting and Archery Association and Director of the Championship, expressed delight at the Qatari team’s achievement. He highlighted the strong start to the season and the six medals won by Qatari shooters. Al Sulaiti attributed these successes to the support from the Qatar Olympic Committee and the QSAA, which provides resources like training camps and top-level coaches.

Al Sulaiti mentioned that the Qatari shooters are prepared for the trap competition and aim to replicate their skeet success. He also noted the positive feedback from delegations and the Asian Shooting Confederation regarding the championship’s organization.

Looking ahead, Al Sulaiti shared that Qatar will host the World Shooting Championship in November, a qualifier for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The Qatari national team plans to participate in several competitions to prepare for this event. He concluded by wishing all shooters success in the remaining events of the Asian Shotgun Championship.
