Dammam: Defending champions Qatar will take on South Korea on Wednesday in their third match at the main round of Asian Men’s Handball Championship 2022.
The Valero Rivera-coached side has been placed in Group 1 in alongside nine-time winners South Korea, hosts Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan while Group 2 includes Kuwait, Iran, Iraq and Bahrain.
Earlier on Monday, Team Qatar thrashed Uzbekistan 46-15 to edge closer to semi-finals. The second consecutive win at the Ministry of Sports Hall in Qatif put the four-time winners on top of Group I standings with 4 points and a whopping goal difference of +46.
Top two teams from each group will book berths in the semi-finals of the event, which will be played on January 29. The final will be played on January 31.
The top five teams from the Championship will directly qualify for the 2023 World Men’s Handball Championship, to be held jointly by Poland and Sweden.
