Qatar to Co-chair High-level Pledging Conference to Support Humanitarian Response in Sudan and the Region

The State of Qatar will co-chair, on Monday in Geneva, a high-level pledging conference to support the humanitarian response in Sudan and the region, with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Federal Republic of Germany, and the United Nations, represented by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the European Union, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

In a statement today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the State of Qatar has, since the beginning of the fighting in Sudan, provided 266 tons of food and medical aid via an air bridge, and has also evacuated 1,784 Qatari residency holders. It stressed that its co-chairmanship of this conference is within the context of its continuous support for the brotherly Sudanese people.

The Ministry reaffirmed the position of the State of Qatar calling for an immediate halt to the fighting in Sudan, exercising maximum restraint, resorting to the voice of reason, giving priority to the public interest, and sparing civilians the consequences of fighting. It also expressed the aspiration of the State of Qatar that all parties pursue dialogue and peaceful ways to overcome differences, and affirmed its full support for all regional and international efforts to find a solution to the crisis.
