New york: The State of Qatar participated in the meeting of heads of state and government focusing on the future of Gaza, held alongside the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Qatar was represented by HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi.
According to Qatar News Agency, HE Dr. Al Khulaifi emphasized in his speech that addressing the situation in Gaza should extend beyond reconstruction. He argued for a comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian question to ensure lasting stability in Gaza, the West Bank, and the broader region. Qatar’s longstanding support for the Palestinian people through humanitarian and development assistance was highlighted as a testament to its commitment to regional stability. Dr. Al Khulaifi stated that such efforts require a collective international responsibility rather than isolated actions.
He also highlighted the severe conditions endured by the people of Gaza, noting that the ongoing conflict has devastated the essential aspects of life, including health, education, governance, and the rule of law. Dr. Al Khulaifi criticized the Israeli government’s stance to prolong the conflict, mentioning an attack on Qatar during peace negotiations hosted by the country. He described this as a violation of sovereignty and a threat to peaceful conflict resolution principles.
Dr. Al Khulaifi urged that planning for Gaza’s future should not be postponed, advocating for a Palestinian-led process under the Palestinian Authority with adherence to United Nations principles. He called on international partners to support this initiative without imposing or exercising control. He affirmed the Palestinians’ right to self-determination and land, rejecting any plans for forced displacement or settlement expansion.
He concluded by linking Gaza’s future to that of the West Bank and other occupied territories, stressing that any viable solution must address the entirety of the Palestinian territories under occupation.
