Doha:Qatar's Ministry of Commerce and Industry has introduced a national initiative to support domestic industries and sustainability, with a focus on localizing supply chains and enhancing self-sufficiency.
According to Qatar News Agency, the National Product Week campaign, themed "From Us, For Us – The Story Begins in Qatar," encourages consumers to buy locally produced goods and aims to promote economic diversification across various sectors.
Assistant Undersecretary for Industry and Business Development Saleh Al Khulaifi stated that the initiative aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, the Third National Development Strategy, and the Qatar National Manufacturing Strategy 2024-2030. He highlighted the significance of domestic industries, particularly during recent regional crises and supply chain disruptions. Qatari factories have proven their capability to maintain production and meet the increased demand for essential goods, thereby stabilizing local markets.
Director of the National Product Competitiveness Support Department, Dr. Mohammed Al Bousham Al Sayed, noted that the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of Qatari products and expand their market presence both locally and internationally. The ministry is working on an integrated approach to assess domestic industries, identify challenges, and develop initiatives to support industrial competitiveness and growth.
Al Sayed emphasized the positive impact of previous National Product Week editions, with some retail outlets reporting sales increases of up to 75 percent for national products during 2025. The opening ceremony featured presentations on Qatari products and workshops organized by various ministries and Qatar Development Bank.
The initiative includes the inauguration of three dedicated retail outlets for Qatari products at Lulu Hypermarket in Al Gharafa, Monoprix at Place Vendome, and Al Meera in Ain Khaled, with two additional outlets to open soon at Carrefour in City Center Mall and Rawabi in Al Gharafa. Field visits for school students to national factories are also planned in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
