New york: The State of Qatar actively participated in the Joint General Assembly-ECOSOC Special Thematic Event on the Midterm Review of the Doha Programme of Action (DPoA) for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) held on Wednesday.

According to Qatar News Agency, Her Excellency Minister of State for International Cooperation Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad represented Qatar at the assembly, which was conducted virtually. During the event, Her Excellency highlighted Qatar's role in hosting the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5), underscoring it as a significant milestone in demonstrating international solidarity for capacity-building and addressing challenges faced by LDCs.

Her Excellency stressed that the DPoA for the decade 2022-2031 offers a strategic roadmap tailored to the needs and priorities of LDCs. She reiterated Qatar's dedication, as demonstrated by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's commitment of USD 60 million towards the program's implementation.

The Minister noted the tangible impact of this commitment, citing the Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD) agreements signed in September 2025 with the Office of the High Commissioner. These agreements, totaling USD 21 million, aim to bolster resilience and set up a regional food storage mechanism.

Al Misnad further outlined Qatar's anticipation of hosting the high-level midterm review meeting scheduled for March 25-27, 2027, emphasizing Qatar's leadership in tackling LDC issues and its dedication to translating the DPoA into sustainable growth outcomes.

In conclusion, Her Excellency underscored the importance of fully executing the DPoA and transforming commitments into action, calling for enhanced global collaboration to aid LDCs in achieving comprehensive and sustainable development.
