Doha:The Second Qatar Uveitis Conference, organized by the Qatar Ophthalmology Society in collaboration with the Middle East Africa Uveitis Society and the Middle East Africa Council of Ophthalmology, highlighted the importance of the World Uveitis Day initiative. This global event, first celebrated on April 10 with support from Qatar-Saudi collaboration and international partners, aims to raise awareness about uveitis and promote early diagnosis and treatment.
According to Qatar News Agency, the conference gathered leading ophthalmologists, experts, and specialists from Qatar and around the world to discuss the latest advancements in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of uveitis. Key topics included infectious uveitis, systemic associations, modern therapeutic strategies such as biologic therapies, targeted ocular treatments, surgical challenges, and ocular surface diseases.
The conference served as a scientific platform for experts to exchange knowledge and strengthen communication, crucial for tackling uveitis potentially vision-threatening inflammatory eye disease that affects both children and adults.
Dr. Zamzam Al Baker, Chair of the Conference and a member of the Founding Committee of World Uveitis Day, stressed the significance of hosting this specialized conference in Qatar. She noted that such events are limited in the Arab world compared to Europe and North America and highlighted Qatar's role in the development of uveitis awareness efforts, including the establishment of World Uveitis Day.
Dr. Faisal Naqdan, President of the Qatar Ophthalmology Society, emphasized the conference's role in bringing experts together to improve diagnostic and treatment approaches for uveitis, enhancing comprehensive care for patients. He affirmed the Society's commitment to supporting scientific activities that advance ophthalmology and eye health in Qatar.
