Doha: The State of Qatar hosted the 59th meeting of the Technical Council of the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) today, chaired by HE Chairperson of Qatar General Organization for Standardization and Metrology (QGOSM) Eng. Mohammed bin Saud Al Musallam, with the attendance of HE President of the GSO, Eng. Nawaf Ibrahim Al Mana, and the participation of representatives of the member states and a representative of the General-Secretariat of the GCC.
The meeting’s agenda included important topics, such as a follow-up on the implementation of the decisions of the GSO’s 58th Technical Council meeting. The meeting addressed several mamoranda from the GSO’s presidency related to the fields of specifications and standards, conformity, institutional services, and preparation for the eighth meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs.
In the field of specifications and standards, the adoption of 1,130 Gulf standard specifications drafts as Gulf standard specifications was approved, while t
en draft technical regulations were approved following the recommendation to submit them to the Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs to be approved as Gulf technical regulations. Six technical modifications were approved and a submission to the Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs was approved to authorize the Technical Council to approve the conversion of the Gulf technical regulations for inspection and testing methods into Gulf standard specifications.
In the field of conformity, the Council reviewed the memorandum of the Presidency of GSO regarding the outcomes of the meeting of the Gulf Committee for Verification of Conformity, and discussed a memorandum regarding the adoption of a mechanism for converting national technical regulations into Gulf technical regulations. The GSO Technical Council also reviewed a memorandum regarding the costs of authenticating Gulf conformity certificates, and discussed the outcomes of the meeting of the GCC steering committee for appointment.
