Avaza: The State of Qatar participated today in the International Conference on the Role of Women in Contemporary Society, held in the coastal city of Avaza in Turkmenistan. The delegation was led by HE Minister of State for International Cooperation Dr. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad.
According to Qatar News Agency, in Qatar’s national address at the conference, the Minister emphasized that empowering women is a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development. She highlighted Qatar’s efforts in strengthening human capital by ensuring access to education for women and providing them with equal opportunities in various fields.
The Minister noted that women form the majority in higher education in Qatar, with female graduates accounting for around 70% in scientific and technical disciplines. She reported that women’s participation in the labor market has reached 63.3%, playing a vital role in national economic growth. This participation increases with experience, rising to 49% among women over the age of 30.
She also stressed Qatar’s commitment to promoting women’s participation in leadership roles and decision-making institutions, recognizing their importance in shaping policies and advancing progress. She cited the presence of Qatari women in pioneering positions, including roles as fighter pilots, members of the diplomatic corps, and positions within the Cabinet and the Shura Council.
The Minister expressed Qatar’s aspiration for women in conflict zones such as Sudan, Syria, and Palestine to enjoy peace. She emphasized the importance of having a positive impact by improving lives, alleviating suffering, and enabling hope for a dignified life and a secure future.
On an international level, Qatar supports women in fragile environments through the Women in Conflict Zones Initiative, aiming to provide educational and economic empowerment opportunities and strengthen their participation in peacebuilding efforts.
The Minister affirmed that women’s value extends beyond professional responsibilities, highlighting their roles within families as mothers, sisters, and daughters. She expressed pride in Qatari women’s contributions to society, emphasizing their role in shaping the present and building a bright future for generations to come.
She concluded by urging global cooperation to ensure a future where every woman can dream and achieve her aspirations. She expressed her pleasure in participating in a conference with distinguished female leaders from around the world and extended her appreciation to HE Vice-President for Medical Activities of the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation for Supporting Children in Need of Guardianship Oguljahan Atabayeva for the warm hospitality extended during the event in Turkmenistan.
