Qatar Engages in GCC Education and Higher Education Ministers’ Meetings

Kuwait City: The State of Qatar took part in the 9th meeting of Education Ministers and the 25th meeting of Higher Education and Research Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held in Kuwait. Kuwait currently presides over the 45th session of the Supreme Council of the GCC.

According to Qatar News Agency, the meetings were attended by education ministers and higher education and research ministers from the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Kuwait, along with GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed AlBudaiwi. The Qatari delegation was led by HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Bin Saleh Al Nuaimi.

The delegation from Qatar included Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs Maha Zayed Al Ruwaili, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Higher Education Affairs Dr. Hareb Mohammed Said El Gabery, Secretary-General of the National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science Ali Abdulrazzaq Al Marafi, and other ministry officials. Discussions focused on several priority topics in the fields of general education and higher education and research, aiming to bolster joint Gulf cooperation and the advancement of educational systems in GCC member states.

The meetings resulted in the adoption of recommendations from preparatory meetings held by Undersecretaries of Education and Higher Education Ministries of the GCC countries. These preparatory meetings took place on Sunday in Kuwait. Ministers were briefed on the work of technical committees operating under the GCC, including various initiatives and integrated educational projects, leading to decisions on these matters.

Additionally, the meetings included the adoption of the Gulf Strategy for Combating Drugs (2025 ‘2028), previously approved during the 45th session of the GCC Supreme Council on December 1, 2024, in Kuwait. This strategy will be incorporated into educational programs to enhance the role of educational institutions in raising awareness, protecting youth from harmful behaviors, and reinforcing values of prevention and good citizenship.
