Nouakchott: The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, took part in the 26th meeting of the Technical Committee for Environment. This committee is affiliated with the Council of Arab Ministers in Charge of Environmental Affairs and convened in Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania.
According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting was a segment of the preparations for the 36th session of the Council of Arab Ministers and Heads of Environmental Authorities, set for October 30 in Mauritania. The event featured delegations from member states and regional and international organizations focused on environmental concerns.
The discussions during the technical meeting centered on the follow-up of decisions made by the Council of Arab Ministers in Charge of Environmental Affairs in prior sessions. Participants also reviewed joint Arab initiatives related to environmental protection and sustainable development, marking significant progress in collaborative Arab environmental efforts.
The gathering provided an avenue for coordinating positions and visions in anticipation of forthcoming international environmental agreements. This included preparation for the seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) and the 30th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which is scheduled to take place in Belem, Brazil.
