Qatar Emphasizes International Maritime Security and Expands Global Energy Role

Doha: Al-Watan newspaper noted that the State of Qatar has repeatedly emphasized the importance of ensuring that international maritime routes remain open and secure, in accordance with international law and relevant Security Council resolutions. This includes taking immediate steps to remove any naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz and ceasing the collection of tolls from commercial vessels, considering this a collective responsibility to protect the global economy and global energy security.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Watan highlighted a statement by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani. Speaking before the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Special Meeting "Safeguarding Energy and Supply Flows: Supporting Global Development through International Cooperation," she noted that closing the Strait of Hormuz would transform the crisis from a regional to a global one due to sharp fluctuations in prices.

Al-Watan also reported that the State of Qatar reaffirmed its commitment to being a reliable partner in enhancing global energy security. As one of the world's largest LNG exporters, Qatar has ensured stable and reliable supplies globally, contributing to international market stability. The editorial concluded by mentioning missile attacks from Iran on Ras Laffan Industrial City, necessitating a force majeure declaration on production. Despite these challenges, Qatar continues to advocate for peace through dialogue and diplomacy.

On the domestic front, Al-Arab newspaper highlighted QatarEnergy's agreements with BG International Limited, affiliated with Shell, to acquire interests in three offshore exploration areas off Uruguay's coast. This move strengthens Qatar's role in the global energy sector, particularly in the evolving energy landscape where gas is a key clean energy source during the transitional phase.

Al-Arab stressed that Qatar's strategic economic growth is bolstered by mega-projects like the North Field Development Project, securing its position in global gas exports. Qatar also aims for net-zero carbon emissions through the Al-Kharsaah solar power plant, supplying 10 percent of domestic demand with its 800-megawatt capacity.

Meanwhile, the Peninsula newspaper highlighted the Qatar Foundation Schools Showcase as a demonstration of how education in Qatar is evolving into a culture driven by creativity, experimentation, and problem-solving. The initiative showcases student-led innovations in AI, sustainability, health, and science, emphasizing the importance of connecting education with national priorities.

The Peninsula concluded that such initiatives foster a society valuing ideas and represent investments in the future character, confidence, and leadership potential of an entire generation.
